What You Will Experience
Embody Pelvic Health is 100% devoted to pelvic health—There are private treatment rooms instead of an open gym setting and the clinic has a calm, relaxing ‘vibe’ without tv screens or loud music so that you can focus on your treatment.
You will work with an experienced specialist in pelvic health—Carol Jacobs, PT DPT. I have practiced women’s pelvic and orthopedic rehab since 2016 and along the way have pursued countless hours of advanced coursework in the field, including achieving Pelvic Rehab Practitioner Certification (PRPC) from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute and Postural Restoration certification. What that means for you is that I have a lot of experience treating pelvic health conditions from simple to complex and I have a lot of different ways of approaching your unique condition. I promise you will do more than than just kegels, hamstring stretches, and clamshell exercises when we work together to resolve your symptoms and get you better than before.
Time & privacy—treatments at Embody Pelvic Health are one hour and you will have the one-on-one attention of your physical therapist, enough time allotted to your appointment, and the privacy you need to finally resolve your pelvic health concern.
Consistency & Focus—I will oversee your course of treatment from start to finish and you will not be double-booked or handed over to another therapist or an aide, which provides you with consistency. Important details will not get ‘lost in translation’ and treatment time will not be wasted while you explain yourself at each appointment or wait to get answers to your questions. Consistency builds trust, an essential component of pelvic floor physical therapy because you don’t want to have to explain conditions that are often seen as ‘private’ or ‘embarrassing’ at each visit to someone new.
A Whole Body Approach—your pelvic floor muscles do not exist in isolation. More often than you might think, pelvic floor symptoms are connected to areas of the body above and below the pelvic floor. Even your breathing affects your pelvic floor! The integrative approach of Postural Restoration restores balance between the pelvic floor, the muscle of breathing (the diaphragm) and the entire body to promote optimal, pain-free movement. If you have back pain, SI joint pain, hip pain, neck, arm or shoulder pain, scoliosis, Ehlers Danlos, these and other orthopedic conditions can be evaluated as part of the ‘big picture’ and treated as part of your plan of care without needing to get a new prescription for a different ‘body part.’
Pilates equipment to help awaken the core—Embody Pelvic Health is equipped with Pilates equipment. The unique support of the Pilates Reformer helps you overcome compensatory movement patterns that have arisen from pelvic floor dysfunction while you work on activating the deeper muscles of the core, of which the pelvic floor is an integral part. This in turn will help you find the same muscles with your home program on the mat and help you progress faster.
Beyond symptom resolution, there’s thriving—You will be equipped with a much deeper understanding of how your body works, as well as ‘the why’ behind your symptoms, how to prevent them from returning, and how to manage flare ups if they happen. Thriving— going beyond symptom resolution to restoring confidence in your body so that you can get back to doing the things you love is the next step. I want to work with you to go beyond ‘good enough for discharge’ to having you feel better and more confident in your body than you did before you started to have symptoms.
